ARTISTIC BIOGRAPHY

Constantin Secară (Bucureşti, 1962) belongs to the present generation of romanian musicologists. He graduated the National Music University in Bucharest, Musicology department, and is a PhD candidate of the same university, studying the Byzantine musicology. He is now a scientific researcher at "Constantin Brăiloiu" Institute of Ethnography and Folklore, of the Romanian Academy; member of the ISCM – Romanian National Section.

Researcher, interpreter and promoter of Byzantine music, member of the Union of the Romanian Composers and Musicologists. In 1994, he was a founding memeber of "Strapoleos" psaltic group, belonging to the homonym church in Bucharest. In 1996 and 1997 he initiated (as musical editor for the Romanian Radio Society) a series of concerts and recordings of this vocal group. Starting from 2003, he has organized and opened many other concerts of "Stavropoleos" and "Nectarie Protopsaltul" vocal groups.

He has participated in national and international musicology, ethnomusicology and Byzantine music conferences. He has published studies and articles on musicology and Byzantine music in publications scientifically important both in Romania and abroad.

Since 2003, he coordinates as a scientific consultant, "Theotokos" psaltic group of "Doamnei" Church, in Bucharest. Together with this group, he participated in a tour in Great Britain (6/13 December 2005), Spain (1/4 December 2006) and Portugal (12/18 December 2006), concerting in important churches in London, Madrid and Lisbon, within the project "Romania in Advent", of the Romanian Cultural Institute. sus
